Do you have any goals for 2021? Is there anything you want to improve upon from last year? Basically, do you want your goals and dreams to be realized this year? I hope you answered yes to these questions. Even if your goal is to go viral on Tik Tok, I have the solution for you.
I present… a vision board.
What is a vision board?
This board – either physical or electronic – contains meaningful photos and words that you want to have an impact on your life. My vision board has a picture of Florence because I want to study abroad there this summer. It also has a picture of a girl working out because I want to focus on my physical health. Further, it contains mantras I want to incorporate into my everyday life.
How does it work?
Besides being a constant reminder of your goals, which makes it hard to put them on the back-burner, a vision board encourages manifestation of these goals. Manifestation is a word that has been thrown around by young adults recently. However, it has been around for quite a while. It is rooted in the Law of Attraction, the origins of which can be traced back to numerous ancient practices. Is it a hoax? Sounds like it until I tell you the basic premise is positive thinking.
The saying, “watch your thoughts, they become your words; watch your words, they become your actions,” perfectly applies here. Our mind is so mighty that we have the power to change our own reality. Our identity is what limits us, and our thoughts determine our identity. As Buddha said, “All that we are is a result of what we have thought.” So positive self-talk really is effective, as is negative self-talk.
You’ve convinced me! I definitely need a vision board! How do I make one?
This part is easy and fun! If you have a cork board or whiteboard, you can find your images/mantras online and print them out or cut them out of magazines to arrange in a collage. I wanted my vision board to be my computer screensaver, so I created it on PowerPoint. I spent time on Pinterest and Google Images finding pictures of things that I want to experience, accomplish, or become in 2021. Being happier, traveling, writing a book, centering Jesus, and doing well in school are all things I added to my vision board. Plus, like I mentioned before, I added some mantras.
What’s with the mantras?
Mantras are the vehicle for manifestation because they speak your desires into existence by shifting your mindset. Mantras traditionally have been used in yoga and meditation and have recently been popularized in mainstream media. Now, Instagram influencers, TikTokers, podcasters, and celebrities like Oprah swear by the power of mantras.
They can be as simple as, “I am strong,” “I am kind,” or “I am enough.”
They can also be as detailed as, “I have the tools necessary to stay stable amidst the chaos around me.”
I got these mantras off of Google pretty quickly, so if you do not know where to start, just search it up!
Still don’t know where to start? I leave you with this question, which was presented to me by Jim Fortin in his podcast: “What would be the identity of someone who already has what I want?” (The Jim Fortin Podcast episode 149).
Final thoughts
I hope I successfully conveyed the importance and power of vision boards to you. If you have any questions, feel free to drop them in the comments! Happy 2021, readers. I wish you health, wealth, success, and happiness this year.
xoxo,
