Change Your Life Through Listening

You know the sarcastic joke slash truism, Everyone has a podcast? I mean, for real. Even Lala Kent has a podcast. But the podcast world is so oversaturated with brands, it’s best to just stay out of the purple Apple app, right?

Wrong! Podcasts are the easiest way to learn, get inspired, and stay connected with the world. Plus, and here is the best part, they can be part of a habit stack.

Habit stacking is when you add an activity on top of an already-established habit. For example, if you already wash your face every morning, and you want to increase your self-confidence, you can start saying positive affirmations in the mirror while you wash your face. It’s that simple!

I actually learned about habit stacking from a podcast, believe it or not! Shelby Sacco hosts the Sad to Savage podcast. She is currently taking a break from posting new episodes, but I definitely recommend listening to her document how she pulled herself from the lowest point in her life to the highest point (hence, sad to savage!).

To habit stack with podcasts, all you need is a pair of ear buds (AirPods? air buds? ear pods? headphones?) and an established habit. For me, I listen to my podcasts while I bike to school. On days where I don’t bike to school, I would ideally go for a walk and listen. I have not quite achieved that goal yet, and I wonder if it is because the going for a walk part is not already a habit… One thing at a time!

Podcasts only update once, maybe twice a week. So, if you have a daily commute, you need to build up your repertoire of podcasts. Here’s my suggestion for a 5-day work week: Pick a podcast that

For me, that list looks like:

I found all of these podcasts through recs! Please drop your rec and connect it to one of the 5 purposes in the comments!

  1. Love this short and sweet blog post! The part about the AirPods made me laugh out loud and think about Dad because he changes the name he uses each time he mentions them. I just listened to a Mel Robbins podcast this morning during my run! It was awesome!
